Packages for Linux

FBReader 2.1.2, released 30th September 2024

Readium LCP certified

We distribute the latest version as an AppImage:

How to install and run

Unlike traditional packages that require installation, an AppImage is a self-contained, executable file with almost all required dependencies embedded. After downloading the file, simply right-click, select “Properties”, and check the box labelled “Allow executing file as a program”. Alternatively, use the command line:

chmod +x FBReader_Book_Reader-x86_64-2.1.2.AppImage
Now you can run it!

If you wish to integrate the AppImage closely into your desktop environment, (e.g., creating application shortcuts), consider using a tool like Gear Lever.

In rare cases, AppImage might fail to start on a Linux computer. The AppImage uses base libraries installed on your system, so you might have to install some core packages, including OpenGL. Moreover, if your distribution is too old, the AppImage won’t work. The Intel version is built on a Ubuntu 20.04 computer, and the libraries are expected to be at least as new as they were in 2020. The ARM version is even “younger”. It is built on Fedora 38 that was released in April 2023.

Alternatively, you can install the most recent release from the Snap Store. The snap version is currently for the Intel architecture only.
